Birmingham based Ifa-Yoruba Contemporary Arts Trust (IYCAT), run by double Grammy award-winning Musician and Director, Lekan Babalola, launches the first of many arts experiences for the African diaspora and beyond.
The African Weekender which runs from Friday 24th through to Sunday 26th November across various locations across the city will include Gambian/West African storytelling, Angola rooted Kizomba dance, Shakespearean drama with a Yoruba twist, contemporary music fusion, percussion performance and much much more.
With the focus on ‘Re-imagining Africa through the Arts’, the weekender will showcase a plethora of exceptional talent over the course of 3 days.
The African Weekender ends on a high with an array of family-friendly performances and workshops on Sunday 26th November – be prepared to be blown away…

5.30pm: Usifu Jalloh - The Cow Foot Prince
Led by award-winning performer and educator Usifu Jalloh, this promises to be an experience bathed in high-quality talent. Stemming from his roots in Sierra Leone combined with his long-life passion for story-telling, audiences can expect a performance with international languages, music, dance and story themes.

6.30pm: Kizomba Dance Workshop
With its traditional definition meaning “party” in Kimbundu (a native tongue of Angola), Kizomba is a dance of passion, finesse and sophistication. Learn the steps to the sister of Zumba and the moves of liberation.
7.45pm: African Roots Fusion Band
Birmingham natives and award-winning African Roots Fusion band is a collaboration of African, British and Caribbean singers, songwriters and producers. Entering into their 5th year of musical greatness, their music is a testament to their African and Caribbean lineage blended with their British experience, resulting in a rich, distinctive sound.

9.30pm: DJ Stoneboy
A creole of African inspired music for all to enjoy! Join DJ Stoneboy in his outstanding music jam to conclude family day!
