Tim Lawrence author of ‘Love Saves the Day: A History of American Dance Music Culture, 1970-79’ and ‘Hold On to Your Dreams: Arthur Russell and the Downtown Music Scene, 1973-92’ will be coming to Cafe Artum for an evening of discussion following on from his latest book ‘Life and Death on the New York Dance Floor, 1980-83’.
In his books Tim has covered through extensive research pivotal moments in dance floor history. He has written about David Mancuso’s Loft parties, the birth of the underground Disco movement in America, Arthur Russell, Larry Levan and The Paradise Garage, as well as, the downtown art punk movement, New York’s ‘mutant’ period of music which gave birth to some of the most prolific cultural periods in modern culture and how these moments, people and music created blueprints for dance music as we know it today.
Cafe Artum will be licensed for drinks, Local DJ - Robert Johnston will also be sharing the brilliant music from this period of time.
